Tips for cleaning shower doors

If you have completed your home renovation and are now dealing with the mundane task of cleaning every part of the property, it is important to take advantage of as many tried and tested tips as possible. When it comes to cleaning frameless shower doors, try some of the following methods for great results; you may be surprised at just how clean your shower doors become!

  1. Toothpaste: squeeze out the entire tube (any regular brand will do) and apply it to the shower door. Use a sponge and work in a circular scrubbing motion until the entire door is covered with toothpaste. Rinse thoroughly. You should be left with a sparkling clean shower door.
  2. Liquid dishwasher soap: apply the soap to a clean sponge and rub it over the door. Leave it on for around five minutes, before rinsing it off thoroughly with warm water. Finish by drying the door with a lint-free cloth. For a really dirty, grimy shower door, leave the liquid dishwasher soap on for at least an hour before rinsing, to let it penetrate through the layer of dirt.
  3. WD-40: this is a surprising suggestion but seems to work really well. Simply apply it to the door, leave it for one minute and then wipe it off; there is no need to scrub.
  4. Shampoo: many people use regular, cheap shampoo on their shower door. This is a really easy method as the shampoo is already in the shower; just keep a small sponge there and the door can be give a quick clean after every shower. This keeps it clean all the time and there is no need for any intensive occasional cleaning.
  5. Bounce softener sheets: these can remove soap scum from a shower door; you may need to use more than one sheet if the scum is particularly built up.
  6. Lemon oil: wet an old rag with lemon oil and wipe the shower door; the water stains and soap scum should simply slide off. An advantage of using lemon oil is that the oil will repel the water, meaning the grime is less likely to build up again. Using it once every few weeks should keep your shower door sparkling.

Most people use a regular all-purpose domestic cleaner for their shower door, but you may want to try one or more of the above methods as an alternative, particularly if you want ideas for natural, chemical-free cleaning.
